PUBG MOBILE VS FREE FIRE | WHICH ONE IS BETTER? - REVIEW

One of the most debatable topic in the Indian Gaming CommunityPUBG MOBILE vs FreeFire. Which one is the best? Both the games have their huge fan base across the entire world. Today, in this series of Battle Of The Best, we are about to place PlayerUnknown's BattleGround Mobile and FreeFire BattleGround into the ultimate comparison and will let you know our opinion.

Let us first have short introduction about these games.

Undoubtedly the most popular game in India, PlayerUnknown's BattleGround Mobile, outlasts every game in it's competition. Being one of the first battleground game in India, everyone loves PUBG.

    PUBG MOBILE

PUBG Mobile was published on the Google Play Store and the App Store on  February 09, 2018. This game is owned by BlueHole Company and Tencent

The very first release of PUBG Mobile felt like a very cheap game. The PUBG MOBILE Lite available for all devices, lets you experience the PUBG Mobile's initial gameplay. But, this game progressed throughout the years and now provides high-quality gameplay in mobile devices.

It is not that this game is supported in only higher end devices, it is also supported by low end devices, but the game feels sticky. Though the original fun of PUBG Mobile is hard to experience in lower end devices, the expensive smartphone like iPhone, OnePlus, and ROG can give you an amazing feel of this game.

PUBG MOBILE is a survival type battleground mobile game. A total of 100 players are boarded onto a plane and are allowed to drop within maps that can be 2by2 kms to 8by8 kms long. There are lots of places where players can find the armour, helmets, gears, guns, ammunition and overall warfare items. Then, they have to kill the enemies (opponents) in order to survive

It would take days or weeks to complete one match if there weren't a nightmare in PUBG Mobile. Yes, I am talking about the Nightmare, called as the Blue Zone. Players have to survive inside the Blue zone, which shrinks and becomes smaller every few minutes.

The player or the team that survives till the last becomes victorious. As a culture followed by gamblers, on every win they would have a chicken dinner at night, on every wins in PUBG MOBILE, you receive a Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

    PUBG MOBILE

    Now, let us talk about,

    FreeFire BattleGround:

The best battleground game for mid-range smartphone gamers in the Indian market is probably FreeFire BattleGround. Though, people with iOS devices, and other expensive smartphone also play this game, it is especially popular among 1-3 gb RAM players. Nonetheless, this game provides you amazing graphics, quicker matches and other amazing stuffs.

Published on September 30, 2017 by Garena InternationalGarena FreeFire, is the oldest online multiplayer battle royale game.

    FreeFire BattleGround

I played free fire from its initial release. However, my account was hacked and I left the game. But, I have connection with this game. In the initial phases of this game, it was a very popular game and continued to gain it's popularity over time. You can enjoy its amazing graphics in any smartphone you like. Additionally, your smartphone rarely heats up, after two-three matches.

FreeFire BattleGround is a 50 player online multiplayer battleground mobile game. This game was created by Forest Li. It is a survival based game where you have to be the last man alive to win the match.

A total of 49 players, along with you board onto the plane over maps that are 4by4 kilometers long. You will have limited areas to drop into. You will find houses, buildings, warehouses, and other spots to gain your initial loot. Loots cover helmet, armour, guns, ammunition, backpack, and more.

One game in FreeFire completes in around 10 minute and the reason is SafeZone. It has a circular zone, also called the Safe Zone that shrinks every few minutes. Players need to stay inside the Safe Zone, to avoid the damage dealt by the zone.

On making their way into the zone, the play area gets smaller and players might encounter many enemies on their way. Then, they will need to kill them and remove them from their way.

    Garena FreeFire

After the players finish off all the enemies, the last player or last team remaining wins the match. On every winsFreeFire prompts you with a screen showing 'Booyah!'. 'Booyah' represents extreme happiness on being victorious.

Both the competitors have made their introduction. Now, the arena awaits the action-packed comparison

Here are our rules of comparison:
    • Both the games are online multiplayer battleground type, they have similar ideas, so we will compare those ideas together and give our conclusions on each.
    • Before comparing each ideas, we will give you a brief about each ideas, their uses and finally decide which one seems to be more effective?
    • The results of this Battle of The Best is in your hands! Vote for your favorite game in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

    Let the battle begin:

    Who is the OG?

As we already discussed that, PUBG Mobile was introduced on February 09, 2018 and FreeFire BattleGround was introduced on September 30, 2017

HistoricallyFreeFire is an OG (Old Gangstar) in battle royale mobile community. But, PUBG Mobile was not the first approach of Tencent games. They had already introduced PUBG PC on March, 2017 which is earlier than FreeFire BattleGround.

So, logicallyPUBG is an OG of Indian Mobile Gaming Community.

    PUBG MOBILE

PUBG PC, when introduced for the first time grabbed the attention of too many players around the world. Online Multiplayer BattleGround became popular in Gaming Communities. Other popular games were released later after the release of PUBG PC.

Though people liked gameplay of PUBG PC, they couldn't play it as it requires high end PC. That is when FreeFire was released later after half year of its release. Since, it could be played in any category of smartphone or PC (using emulator), this game got popular amongst the players.

This game grabbed attention of all players worldwide and saw a tremendous growth in its popularity. It took almost half a year to PUBG to beat down this competition when they would release PUBG for Mobile.

As soon as Tencent along with BlueHole Company released PUBG MOBILE, with everything more realistic than FreeFire, people started shifting towards PUBGM. However, low end devices didn't support PUBGM. So, some fan bases still played FreeFire and generated the emotions towards the game. This is how the rivalry between both these battlegrounds began. All because the gaming community has been divided into two groups, the healthy cold wars still keep going on between these players.

Almost like what Gangstar do, these gamers also do not leave a chance to criticize the others. On social media, you might have seen too many discussions going on around this topic. Even this article is based on this topic.

    FREE Fire

Players create their own Gaming groups on Facebook, profiles on InstagramYouTube and more and do their best to promote their own game.

This healthy rivalry is also responsible for the massive growth of these two games over years.

If I had to say, I would go with PUBG as an Old Gangstar because FreeFire has most of the ideas copied from PUBG PC, which was released before Garena Free Fire. Though, FreeFire might have its own idea of releasing this Battle royale. They might not have copied PUBG. But, in this world, we believe something that was published first. So, I would stick around with PUBG, on this topic.

But, you can debate, FreeFire was developed originally for mobile and PUBG Mobile copied the theme and idea of FreeFire, to expand it's audience.

Whatsoever, let's move onto our next point of discussion.

Which supports more number of players?

Depending on the maps and the match modes, PUBG Mobile can have anywhere from 8 players to 100 players in a single match. Whereas, FreeFire BattleGround can have anywhere around 8 players to 50 players, in total.

The number of players that can enter one single match makes a huge difference in the tase of that match. Just imagine, 79 other players and you enter one match and half of the total players land on the same spot. Then, you have to be really quick to get the weapon first. But, what happens is opposite to this.

Your smartphone can't load the graphics, it denies connecting to the server and you get killed in the air before landing. It hurts when you even think of this.

And, you know, this is a truth for many PUBG Mobile players, including me. Since the game has 100 players boarded onto one plane and spread in different places on the map. The server constantly receives and sends data to each and every players. But, what you see is "Match response timed out!". Or, "Server reconnect. Please restart the game." What can be more frustrating than this?

If you play on high end devices then that's not a problem for you. But, reviewing as overall, FreeFire stands out in terms of optimization on number of players.

Every players playing the games want to enjoy it. Having 50 players in one single match is enough. This reduces the total duration of the match. Also, increases the pace of the game.

    FreeFire

Nobody wants the ups and downs in the lives. They want to live the life straight forward. Hence, in these battleground games, if you can't live life straight forward, the games lagsdrops the FPS and looses the connection with the server, you don't feel much interested to play this game again.

But, because your match got worse, you will want to play more matches to recover your loss. If the same thing happens again and again, you will finally rage out and might result in something negative.

Both games allow you to play either SoloDuo or Squad. In Solo matches, you will be alone in your team. In Duo matches, there would be two players in your team. In squad matches, there would be four players in your team.

Because you can play with 3 of your friends in both the games, no game is better or worse in terms of how many teammates you can have in one single match.

    PUBG MOBILE

So, everything comes down to the performance of the game as a result of total players playing the game.

In conclusion, though FreeFire has less players (50) compared to PUBG MOBILE (100) in a single match, FreeFire feels more better to play. As a mid-range smartphone gamers, we can feel the pain of Playing PUBG in low end devices. But, FreeFire would run smoothly like a butter in any device. So, this comparison goes on the side of FreeFire.

    Total Downloads and Download Size?

Total Downloads shows the popularity of the game. After a game has been published, its success and revenue depends on how many people have downloaded this game on their smartphone.

Game size denotes how many features are there in the game. Game size and Download size denotes everything about the game. You won't delete all of your memories that you created (pictures, videos, music, etc.) over years, just to install a game on your device. So, having less file size is very important if you want to stand out in the market.

Over years, Free Fire has been downloaded 500 million plus times. And, PUBG Mobile has been downloaded 100 million plus times

    FreeFire Downloads

The download size of FreeFire is around 568 MB. And, the download size of PUBG Mobile is around 1.9 GB

FreeFire has been topping the charts for the past years. It has been the top Grossing and top Free application for years. While, PUBG mobile seems way down in the competition.

For the reason, FreeFire is downloaded more, FreeFire players brag this thing against PUBGM players. But, PUBGM players boast off the download size and the total size of the game.

While debating on this topic, PUBG players say, "Cheap items have many buyers. Not all players can afford luxurious items." This is a statement by the PUBGM players to debate FreeFire players in the total Downloads of the game.

Whereas, FreeFire players say, "Come into the battleground and we'll show you what the real size of the game is." They try to boast of their skills, because they do not have much to debate the fact that PUBG M has greater size.

But, having more size doesn't mean PUBGM is always good. The size of the game is big for the following reasons:
    •  Lots of maps
    •  Lots of modes
    •  Lots of graphics settings
PUBG mobile has so many unnecessary maps, modes and graphics settings that aren't used so often.

If they remove additional maps and modes like: Infection ModeBlueHole modeZombie ModePayload Mode and other unwanted modes then, the size of this game will be greatly reduced. Additionally, if the game would have just 80 players in one match, the size of the game would also be less.

In providing much more comfort to the players and trying to add so many extra modes to keep up the popularity of this game in the gaming community, PUBG mobile officials have forgotten to optimize the size of the game.

For this fact, you might want to debate that GTA 5 is so much large game. Does that mean the game is not optimized?

That game is made for PC users but this is a mobile game. So, a little bit more optimization would be great.

In the recent times, if you check the reviews for PUBG mobile on Google Play Store, you would surely know its current situation and link it to what I mean to say. The developers want to add so many new features but don't know how to add them perfectly.

    PUBGM REVIEW

But, the reviews of FreeFire are way much satisfying and positive than those of PUBG M.

Here are some reason why FreeFire has less size:
    • Less buildings
    • Smaller Play Area
    • Less players
    • Optimized graphics
    • Strong connection

In conclusion, Free Fire is hated because of its less file size but that's the strongest part of this game. So, this comparison goes hugely on the side of FreeFire.

Let's move onto the next topic.

How Real does the game feel?

If the games are shooting battle royale type then, having a realistic feel is a must. It would be more better if you would have First Person Perspective in the game. Like: Call of DutyValorant, etc. do.

Free Fire is more like a cartoon based game, almost like Fortnite while PUBG Mobile is a realistic survival game

    FREE Fire Graphics

FreeFire has comparitively more brightness in the game than PUBG Mobile. And, personally I live playing games with low brightness (exposure).

FreeFire comprises of wooden housessingle storey or double storey houses. The guns have very little to no recoil. The movement of the character is also choppy. It doesn't resemble the human's movement. Though the game has good graphics, everything inside it feels to be little cartoon type. Additionally, the weapons in the game are also unreal. They are no way identical to the real life weapons. Also, the designs of the cars and other vehicles look like a toy.

On the other hand, PUBG Mobile provides you realistic gameplay. You feel as if you are inside the game. The housesbuildingsweaponsvehicles are neatly polished. Though, they seem traditional, they provide a real feeling. As a low-end smartphone gamers, it is hard to see these things in the game.

    PUBGM graphics

Weapons in PUBG Mobile are identical to the ones in real life. Guns do have recoil. Although aim-assist is a feature available in the game and can control the recoil to some extent, the game feels too nice to playVehicles look superb amazing. They resemble the real life vehicles like CarsJeepsAirplanes, and more.

The damage dealt to the opponents is also great in PUBG Mobile in comparison to the Garena FreeFire.

FreeFire seems more real than PUBG Mobile in a fact that it has many characterstheir abilities and their strengths. As you know, every person is different from the others. They have special ability, strength, skills and much more when it comes to battle field.

This game provides 25 different characters that you can choose from and their abilities are also available in the classic or ranked mode matches. Whereas, PUBG Mobile has way less characters. It has just four characters that have their special ability. But, those abilities can only be used in Arena Matches. They do not have any relation with the classic mode matches.

Here are the list of character available in Garena FreeFire:

    FreeFire Character

    • Olivia
    • Ford
    • Kelly
    • Nikita
    • Hayato
    • Misha
    • Maxim
    • Kla
    • Paloma
    • Miguel
    • Caroline
    • Antonio
    • Wukong
    • Moco
    • Laura
    • Rafael
    • A124
    • Shani
    • Notora
    • Alvaro
    • Steffie
    • Jota
    • Alok
    • Kapella
    • Wolfraa

Here are the list of characters in PUBG Mobile:
    • Victor
    • Sara
    • Carlo
    • Andy

Let us compare some of the features in these two games together to draw a conclusion which one feels more realistic!

Gloo Wall (FreeFire) vs Smoke Grenade (PUBGM):

Using a Gloo Wall, one will be able to create a curved wall that would protect him/her from the shots of enemies but can be easily destroyed if it gets shot.

    Gloo Wall- FreeFire

Using a smoke grenade, one will be able to launch smokes into the air that take around 6 seconds to deploy and can block the vision of your as well as the enemies. But, one can get shots through the smoke.

In real life battlessmoke grenade would be applicable because no one can create a Gloo Wall in seconds while the war going on is already so much intense.

No recoil (FreeFire) vs Yes Recoil (PUBGM):

When you shoot a gun in FreeFire, it doesn't obey the Newton's Third Law of Motion, completely. You will feel the pressure or the push exerted by the gun towards you but your aim won't get inaccurate. It stays on the same target.

In PUBG Mobile, when you fire a gun, it exerts pressure towards you as well as it pushes the gun upwards. To maintain your accuracy, you will need to adjust the sensitivity of the game and bring down the screen using your thumb. For this reason, no recoil sensitivity settings is searched most by PUBG Mobile players.

    Recoil - PUBG MOBILE

In real life battles, it is obvious we will feel Newton's third law of motion that will push the gun backward as well as upward. You cannot fire the gun in auto mode unless you have been prone down on the ground. So, PUBG Mobile feels more realistic in this.

In conclusionPUBG Mobile is more realistic game than FreeFire. We drew this conclusion by comparing them on the basis of vehicles, characters, recoil of the guns, building structures, defensive tools, and weapons. Another fact is that PUBG Mobile was created in Unreal Engine (used for making PC games) so, it adds realistic appearance in the game. PUBG Mobile wins comparison on this topic.

Finally, let us discuss the last point.

    Biggest Community:

Note: We are discussing the community formed in YouTube only.

The Biggest YouTuber in FreeFire community is Total Gaming. He has over 12 million subscribers on his youtube channel. His channel's total views have crossed over 1.4 billion views on his channel.

Whereas, the biggest YouTuber in PUBG Mobile community is DynamoGaming. He has over 8.20 million subscribers in his youtube channel. His channel has gained 650million+ views.

    Dynamo Gaming YouTube

No matter how big your community is worldwide. In India, PUBG is the best battleground game.

Each games are the best for the people of each communities. The people have created a little ego as they support one particular game. Since one player has not played both these games, he/she spreads hate about both these games. As a gamer, one should avoid doing these things. What a real gamer does is: He/she enjoys all the games equally but certainly will choose any one as the favorite. But, doesn't spread hate about the other game.

The Indian Gaming Community is growing big. PUBG mobile has established themselves massively in Esports. So, their esports studio, management team and esports team is well-established. But, FreeFire has not entered the competitive scenario completely. So, their initial tournaments are not sponsored. Hence, one of their tournament was hugely criticized by the PUBGM lovers comparing it with the PUBG's studio.

Once you enter a group of PUBG lovers or FreeFire lovers. You will see various posts criticizing each game. This is not good. You have to improve yourself. Have healthy criticism. Don't hate or abuse anyone or any game. Because every games were and are the hopes of so many people.

These were some words from bottom of my heart.

Anyways, let's move on to the results!

With all the above comparisons done, we are making a decision from our side.

Keeping the above points in mind, the results are as follows:

Who is the OG? - PUBG MOBILE
More number of players (Optimization) : FREE FIRE
Most Downloads and Game Size - FREE FIRE
Which game feels more realistic? - PUBG MOBILE
Biggest Community (YouTube) - FREE FIRE

On a fair note, the comparison between both these games has been a tie. No game wins the first war of the Battle of the Best between PUBG Mobile and FreeFire with a score of 2-2. But, it is not over yet. The result is in your hands. Vote for your favorite game in the comments below.
